Weekend Wanderings: Tanjong Pagar Railway Station (Closed)

by - Wednesday, May 06, 2015

We went to the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station on Labour Day. The boys have never been to a railway station before apart from the MRT stations. Visiting the place also brings back memories of my childhood days when my parents would bring us here to take the train ride to Malaysia. The place was full of buzz during the good old days. It is really a pity that the railway station had to end its operations.

Although the railway station has a very long history, the building and interiors are pretty much well maintained.

This used to be the ticketing counter

Heard someone explaining that this is used to stop the train
in case the train is not able to stop in time

A penny for your thoughts, boys?

Model of the day

It was a very hot day. Didi's hair is all wet and plastered on his head.

It's water time! Drink up!

Doing some running on the platform

And some jumping exercise

Walking on the railway

Yeah! We have conquered the railway!

A family photo to end the day

We had a really good day at the railway station. It is a good place to learn about a part of Singapore's history. It is also a good opportunity to have the chance to walk on the tracks.

The railway station will be opened to public on public holidays. In the next opening, there will be displays of the sketches of the building and its surroundings done by the public. So mark down your calendar and be sure to visit!
