[Review] Eat, Drink, Plunge @ SandBank - Breakfast Buffet

Saturday, 5 March 2016

We were invited to SandBank for a breakfast buffet last weekend. We are not morning person and not easties, so what makes us willing to travel all the way to the east early in the morning for a breakfast? The key word is 'plunge'.

SandBank is a casual dining restaurant located at Parkland Green, East Coast Park. The restaurant is right by the beach. I thought it will be a bliss to dine next to the sea, enjoying the sea breeze while savouring a meal.

SandBank started its operation since 2014 but it is until recently that they launched their new breakfast buffet.

When we reached the restaurant, we were shown to our seats promptly. We were seated in the indoor dining area, which is quite big. The place adopts an open-concept layout and we could feel the sea breeze blowing through. There are also sports matches showing on the large TV screens, a great place for Daddies to chill. We totally love the relaxing ambience.

Then, it's time to hit the buffet lines. A variety of international and local food are served.

Cold cuts

A variety of breakfast items. I like the bacon and the kids love the sausages and baked beans.

Breads are available and you can make toast with the toaster provided.
The cakes and croissants are nice!

There are also some local delicacies such as Nasi Lemak, Roti Prata and Porridge. One of the items which is really popular, is the chicken wings. They get snatched up very quickly once it is served. We managed to get only 2 pieces and they are indeed yummy! I personally feel that the replenishment of food can be better improved.

Another star of the buffet is the Egg Station. The eggs are freshly prepared on the spot, ala minute. There are a total of 7 ways of having the eggs - Omelette, Sunny Side Up, Scrambled Egg, Poached Egg, Egg Benedict, Hard Boiled Egg and Soft Boiled Egg.

Omelette and Sunny Side Up

The egg benedict is nicely done! Considering the price of egg benedict from elsewhere, ordering a few of this will get your money's worth back.

While the adults are busy eating, kids were kept entertained by balloon twisting and glitter tattoo by Weekends Pte Ltd.  Please note that these were add-on entertainment just for the day we visited the restaurant.

A distinct feature of Sandbank is the 15m plunge pool right outside the restaurant. The pool is divided into 2 sections, one for the younger kids (0.5m deep) and another for the older kids or even adults (0.9m deep). The pool area is sheltered so parents do not have to worry about the weather. Kids can swim and play in the pool while parents can enjoy their meal in peace. Well, at least this is true for parents with older kids. Adult supervision is strongly advised as there is no life guard around.

For us, we feel that our boys are still too young to play in the pool by themselves. As we were not seated near the pool, we had to reject the boys' pleas to go inside the pool. After several rounds of begging, we gave in. I asked the staff if we could change our seats to somewhere nearer to the pool so that we could keep an eye on the kids. We got our request granted! Kids playing in the pool while we enjoyed our meal right next to it. Ok, actually not really much sitting down and eating. Either hubby or me had to stand next to the pool to look after the kids as there are steps leading into the pool and kids can easily slip and fall while going up and down the steps.

When you eat, drink and plunge, it is inevitable that the water could be a little bit dirty. For us, we feel that the water is still ok. At least there are no pieces of food floating around, nor leaves swimming in the pool. I think it is better than most public water playgrounds.

Nonetheless, we got to enjoy the beautiful sea front view and the sea breeze! Such bliss!

After the kids had enough fun in the pool, there's a public shower area beside the restaurant to clean and dry up the kids. Then, it's back to more eating business.

Overall Experience

We totally love the ambience - casual, laid back and relaxing. The location on the beach front is great for relaxation. The concept of having a plunge pool at the restaurant is something new and welcoming for the kids. Service wise, I personally feel that the replenishment of food can be better improved. The staffs are friendly and helpful. We were thankful that our request to change our seats was granted. Food wise, the spread of the buffet is not too bad and the price is pretty reasonable. Just eat more from the eggs station and try to grab the chicken wings.
